Youth

The TOR Youth Group is a vibrant part of congregational life. TASTY--Temple Or Rishon aka Sunrise Jewish Congregation Temple Youth--is affiliated with NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth). We are home to both the 9-12 grade division and the 7-8 grade division. We host several congregational events throughout the year as well as help to initiate community youth events. All 7-12 grade students are invited to join us and hundreds of other Jewish youth throughout our four-state region for exciting events throughout the year.

Book Club
Do you like to read? Do you like to read interesting books by authors who write with a Jewish perspective? Do you like to read about interesting lives, fascinating plots, and great characters? Would you like to have a good time, discuss books with friendly people and enjoy great refreshments?? Well....join our book club. It's on the 4th Monday at the Temple from 7 to 9 PM. TOR Seniors Group
Welcome to the TOR Seniors Group "Gil Ha'zahav". This is a group for our most experienced congregants!

Seniors don't like driving at night, so our meetings will be during the daytime. Look for information presentations, entertainment, outings to local hot spots, travelogues, and many other fun activities.

Contact Ted Blumenstein (916-788-8254 or tedbee@surewest.net) for more details.

Temple Or Rishon Library
The Temple Or Rishon library has a wonderful collection of books about Jewish holidays, culture, history and people. We also have an awesome video collection. See the full catalog.

Contact Arnold Victor (916) 434-8845 or Alan Douglas (916) 798-2577.

Chavurot
A chavurah is a group of friends that get together outside of the synagogue. Each chavurah governs itself and determines how often it meets and what kinds of activities its members undertake. Many of the chavurot associated with Temple Or Rishon have their genesis in a shared geographical location (for example, there are chavurot in Folsom and Rocklin, among other places.) Others have formed on the basis of shared interests or life experiences. Groups are available for a variety of activities and interests. If you are interested, call Dorothy Anderson at 530-622-768. Fill out a Chavurah Survey. We will also be happy to send you one via email, fax, or postal mail.

Tree of Life
Temple Or Rishon has a beautiful Tree of Life Plaque. This plaque provides an opportunity for us to honor special people in our lives, life cycle events, such as Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, as well as those who have touched our lives, but are no longer with us. You can honor your loved ones for a donation of $125.00 per leaf. The leaves are done locally and are ready in only a few days.

To purchase a Tree of Life Leaf, please print and fill out the Tree of Life Request Form. Enclose a check for $125.00 and mail to:
   Temple Or Rishon
   P.O. Box 857
   Orangevale, CA, 95662-0857.

We thank you for your contribution.

Torah Study Session
Have a nosh and study Torah for one hour every week from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. every Saturday morning, just before the 10:00 service. We have a small but dedicated group of regular (opinionated) attendees who explore the deeper meanings of Torah and learn about its history thanks the generosity and patience of our wonderful Rabbi. Newcomers are welcome!

Yahrzeit Memorial Wall Plaques
Temple Or Rishon has a Yahrzeit Memorial Wall. This beautiful wall provides an opportunity for us to remember those who have touched our lives, but are no longer with us. When you light a light on the memorial wall, you are rekindling the light of their spirit.

Each plaque has its own light, and the light will be lit once on the Friday before the annual Yahrzeit and on Yom Kippur Day. Because this is a permanent plaque, there is a one-time donation of $360.00, payable at the time of ordering.

To purchase a Yahrzeit Memorial Wall Plaque, please print and fill out the Yahrzeit Memorial Wall Request Form. Enclose a check for $360.00 and mail to:
   Temple Or Rishon
   P.O. Box 857
   Orangevale, CA, 95662-0857.

We appreciate your contribution.
