Neighborhood Meetings Update
The Neighborhood Task Force Committee has completed their assigned project. The final report was delivered to both the old and new Boards of Directors on June 22nd. Now we are presenting it to you, members of the Temple.

On July 1st, the new Board (08 – 09) endorsed a continuation of this project and approved our moving ahead. Over the next few months the Board will address specific elements of the report and assign priorities, responsibilities, and resources. We will continue to provide feedback on the project progress.

This report is the result of many voices, but in reality it is the common voice of our Temple community. On July 7th, the report was made available to all members. In keeping with our green policy, we will send it out electronically via a PDF attachment. A limited number of hard copies will be available for pick up from the Temple office after July 15th (we need some time to make copies). Please call the Temple office ahead of time if you intend to come in and pick up a hard copy so we can have one ready for you. You may also download a copy of the report by clicking here.

We encouraging you to give us feedback and ask questions about the recommendations. All e-mails sent to the following e-mail box will get a personal phone call from a Board member who is prepared to answer your questions.

Thank you for your support this past year.

Scrip News:
"Do you shop at one of the new Nugget grocery stores? Nugget has a scrip program, though it’s a little different from others. You get a reloadable scrip card and, the first time you load it at your local store, you turn in a form designating the organization you want to support. You load it at the store with whatever amount you choose. Then, use it to pay for your purchases. TOR will get 3% of whatever you load on your card.

Cards are available from a scrip seller or at the store. Just fill out the information and list Temple Or Rishon as the beneficiary.

Mother’s Day is fast approaching, and right behind that will be Father’s Day and Graduations. Check out the list of scrip we carry, and those available by special order. You’re sure to find many great gift ideas."

Call Karen Ziman at 933-6537 or email at karziman@aol.com for more information or to place a special order.

BOARD TRAINING SESSIONS
At our annual meeting, I announced that one of my focus areas is to improve Board communications and have a more open temple environment. I also announced that we are initiating Board training to enhance the effectiveness of how the Board operates.

The first Board training session will address "Managing a Sacred Community". This training session is oriented toward helping us understand that Or Rishon is first and foremost a religious community. This training session will address the religious and administrative obligations of a board of directors based on Jewish values and our position as role models. Our challenge as Board members is to always keep these ideals at the forefront.

At the annual meeting, I also invited all congregants to be involved. I invited everyone to attend at least one board meeting - more if possible. The Board training sessions are also open to all congregants. I invite anyone that can, to come to this initial board training session. It will be held on Tuesday, June 24th at 6:00 PM at the Temple. Since it is an early start, we will chip in for pizza. The training sessions will continue after the summer. We plan to have one session each month on different areas of board responsibility. Please call or email the office if you can attend.

Please contact me, Ted Blumenstein, if you have any questions.
