High Holy Days

High Holy Days are a time for reflection, introspection, prayer, and re-connection. We welcome you to join us in celebrating and observing these special Holy days. We offer a variety of services to meet the spiritual needs of our diverse community.

Come share the spirit and wisdom of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. These Holy Days are a time of prayer, music, reflection and learning.

HHD Electronic Tickets

TOR members in good standing will receive personalized electronic tickets via email on or about September 20th.  If you are unsure if your account is current, please contact Rikki Kass in the Or Rishon office. In order to ensure a safe worship environment we ask that you bring your tickets with you to our High Holy Days services. You may bring a printed copy or show them on your mobile device.

Extra HHD Tickets

TOR is glad to make extra tickets available. Please call the office to arrange complimentary tickets for:

  1. Older college age children
  2. Out of town guests who belong to other URJ Congregations
  3. All active duty military men and women

Arrival and Parking

To make everyone’s High Holy Days experience meaningful, all services will start on time.  Special thank you to our ushers who will greet you and help you find seating.  Please remember that there are no reserved seats except for a few seats in the front that are set aside for service participants.  Additional parking is available at The Life Center on Creek Oaks Lane, across from TOR. If you can manage the short walk from the church, help us leave TOR parking for those who must park close because of disability, or other compelling reasons.   Please remember that parking is not permitted on Creek Oaks Lane because it is a private road.

Security

TOR will employ off duty Sheriffs to help keep our High Holy Days services safe and secure.  These officers will be present throughout our gatherings.  Your cooperation with tickets and parking will help ensure a safe environment.  Everyone must enter through the main lobby doors.

High Holy Days Children’s Programming

Mary Frank, TOR’s Educator, coordinates a special morning program for children 3 years old through 4th grade.  This program runs concurrently to the 10:00 am Services on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.  Age appropriate Holy Days activities, music, prayer and snack make this a great experience for our youngest members.  Space is limited.  Cost per child is $40 and covers both Holidays. Please sign up in advance at https://tinyurl.com/TORHHD  Children are also welcome to join their family in the sanctuary, and the library is available as a “parent/child room” where you can see the service, but not be heard!

High Holy Days Food Drive

Please take home a grocery bag on Rosh Hashanah and return it filled with non-perishable foods on Yom Kippur. Bags will be passed out as congregants leave the Rosh Hashanah Service. All items will be split between TOR’s Food Pantry, the Federation’s Kosher Pantry and the food pantry at CSU Sacramento.  Donations will be accepted through October 11th.

6:00 pm Kol Nidre Family Service for Families with Children

On Tuesday, October 8, at 6 pm, Rabbi Alan Rabishaw and Carol Gunnerson will lead a family friendly Kol Nidre service for families with children.  This 55 minute service will feature age appropriate music, family friendly liturgy, a special story, and the traditional sound of Kol Nidre.

The Final Shofar Blast, Havdalah and Break the Fast on Yom Kippur

The end of Yom Kippur is exciting and uplifting!  And you get to help with raise the ruach (spirit).  If you have a shofar and can sound it, bring it with you so you can join in a special symphonic “Tekiah Gedolah” at the conclusion of Yom Kippur.  Yom Kippur concludes with Havdalah and a Break the Fast meal. The end of Yom Kippur is sure to create a lasting Jewish memory.  Join us!

Wishing you a sweet New Year!
