SCRIP
What is scrip? Scrip is a way for charitable organizations to raise money through their supporters´ everyday shopping. Based on how supporters pay for their purchases, stores give a percentage of the purchase to the charitable organization.
Why use it? This is a way of raising money from purchases you are going to make anyway. It doesn´t cost you a penny more. The merchant is the one who is giving the money to the temple. We have approximately 250 families at TOR. If every family used scrip to pay for $300 in monthly purchases (you know you spend that much on food, gas, clothes, entertainment...), we could raise over $45,000 from the merchants you purchase from.
There are two kinds of scrip: Physical Scrip and Electronic Programs (RaiseRight). They are not mutually exclusive. In fact, we want you to use both.
Physical SCRIP
These are gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, gas, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for TOR. You buy the scrip cards from TOR, and spend them at the store. You get the full value of the card - it does not cost you a penny more, and TOR gets a rebate from the merchant ranging from 2 to 15%.
There are two approaches to buying physical scrip.

1. Shop from our In-house inventory of Scrip. Our Temple Scrip Coordinator (Cecily Kane) carries Scrip for about 40 or so stores. Scrip is sold following the Oneg after Friday night services, on Sunday mornings during Sunday school, and during regular office hours. You may also contact Cecily directly at (916) 952-0404 (call or text) or at scrip@orrishon.org .
2. Pre-order physical scrip from our TOR's electronic Script provider, Raise Right. You can choose from hundreds of stores and denominations. If you sumbit your order by 5 p.m. Monday, it will be ready for pickup or delivery by 5:00 p.m. Friday.
If you want to pre-order scrip from our provider, go to www.raiseright.com and sign up for an account. During the sign up process, you will need to provide TOR's enrollment code so the Synagogue gets credit for the Scrip you purchase. 8FF2EL841L7L6 (Yes, it is possible to support more than one charitable organization at a time. Ask us how.) After you sign up, you can place orders online. You can choose PrestoPay to have the payment deducted from your checking account (or if you prefer, you can mail a check to TOR or pay upon delivery).
